Foods that Contain Yeast

by Allergy Guy

Yeast-containing foods can be avoided when you know what to watch out for.

If you need to eliminate yeast from your diet, there are many foods to watch out for. And not just food either. Some brands of vitamin B are derived from yeast.

This is a partial list of foods that contain yeast. Over time it will grow. I have already replaced the original article with this one.

If you are allergic to yeast, or otherwise need to eliminate yeast from your diet, use this guide help you avoid foods that contain yeast.

According to one of the comments below, if you find disodium guanylate on the ingredients, this ingredient can be derived from yeast, especially if it is listed as a vegan source of the ingredient (thank-you lori e).

There are three sections to this article:

Foods That Always Contain Yeast

These foods always (or almost always) contain yeast. For example, it is possible to make bread without yeast, but most bread that you see in the store is made with yeast.

  • Bagels
  • Beer
  • Bread
  • Bread rolls
  • Cider
  • Fruit skins, especially:
    • Grapes
    • Plumbs
  • Grape juice
  • Malt beverages
  • MSG (often extracted from autolyzed yeast extract or from wheat)
  • Oxo Cubes
  • Pretzels
  • Sake
  • Sour dough bread
  • Wine
  • Yeast Extract:
    • Bovril
    • Cenovis
    • Marmite
    • Oxo
    • Promite
    • Vegemite

Foods That Sometimes Contain Yeast

These foods may contain yeast. You must check product -by-product and recipe-by-recipe.

  • Cakes
  • Doughnuts
  • Fruit, over-ripe
  • Soup – prepared or canned
  • Soy sauce (Most brands do, some do not)
  • Vitamin B supplements (depending on the source of the vitamin B)
  • Chocolate (See article for specifics – chocolate is often fine, depending on type, brand and country).

Yeast-free foods

Eventually, this will become a separate article. For now I am including it here.

It is always best to double-check ingredients for packaged foods, in case manufacturers change their formula or there are variations between countries.

  • Ryvita (Used to contain yeast in some countries. The are now consistently yeast-free everywhere, according to their head office.)

Jus-Rol Pastry website list no ingredients except in frequently asked questions: does contain gluten. It’s only available in UK and Ireland according to website. Where in the states do you get this product and do you have the ingredient list from your label?

Hello again all, i have been really bad for eating forbidden foods recently, comfort eating after 10 mths of trying to conceive and getting nowhere! but really feel bad for it, so want to get back in the no yeast, sugar, chocolate and avoiding the ‘deadly nightshade’ veg too.
so am wondering if i should give up completely tea? ….my favourite drink!
also, i know no sugar or syrups etc allowed, but what about agave nectar is this allowed? and what r the rules when baking? is flour ok, or using mashed banana etc….really want to get it right this time but would luv to be able to have some something ‘sweet’? have been making sugar free banana nut muffins but as bananas are overripe are these not allowed? does anyone have any tips on how to get the sweet fix?! this is what i really struggle with, and cant sub artificial sweetner either as it upsets my stomach :(
any help or advice much appreciated thanks!!

Mario, I can not read your post. Could you please use punctuation marks such as “.”(periods) because your post are just one very long sentence. Where does the information begin and end in your post. I tried hard to read your post, but you are omitting periods, commas, etc. Make it easier for us to read. Period. I can’t get past the first 15 words without getting confused where your thoughts begin and end.

hi caroline there are two diets to keep normal body weight one is were you eat as much as possible raw wegetables second one is you dont eat carbs with proteins dont mix eat proteins with vegetables then eat carbs with vegetables even carrots and beetroot if they cooked that concetrates sugars which feeds candida allergic to yeast it is no no for humans you can eat carbs like pasta but not with fungal foods as tomato paste matured cheeses that makes fertile and volatile ground for candida to flourish use raw almonds for your pasta as parmesan get coffee grinder and do your own almond or flax seed meal candida creates toxins which cant be expelled daily there for body creates fat to neutralise toxins notice how in summer we sweat more less flu in winter we sweat less more flu but in summer candidal people get affected by humidity coz of fungal food as fungi love warmth and humidity then medical wizards call it super bug to control candida for life is important for one health in later life and for normal weight as well

Hi Mario,

I’ve just been diagnosed with a yeast allagy – in the past I was allways told I was allergic to dairy, I only found out I wasn’t when I went on a low carb diet and cut out bread, beer ect I found out I could eat cream and drink more milk.

Having been retested (by a specialist) I’ve been told to avoid all yeast, the only problem is I don’t know where to start and what are the main things to avoid, is all sugar bad or just refind? I don’t have Candida (although have suffered from it a lot in the past) dose this mean I can eat a wider veriaty of food?

Kind regards,

Laura

p.s Your site is very helpfull.

All sugar is bad and refined is worse. I hope the original article serves as a starting point. If not, I guess I’d better work on it some more! Please let me know how I can improve it.

Sugar is one of those things that you don’t need in your diet, and the more you cut it out and the longer you stay away from it, the less you’ll miss it.

hi laura yeast is no no so is leaven bread carbs will get volatile in gut if you eat any fungal or sweet food then carbs become fertile ground for candida to flourish we all have candida as it is a normal product of digestion but overgrovth is a problem read all my comments also on topix forum and daily strenght forum in short avoid any food which is fabricated preserved or pickled to last as they all harbour fungus even domestic pets are geting now human diseases since they been introduced to dry and tinned food as allergy guy said all sugars or sweet fruits or vegetables will fuel candida CANDIDA is not something it will go away it has to be controlled for life with right food i have mentioned somewhere even if you eat right food some of these foods may cause constipation and that will create candida too always sprinkle some almond meal on food which is suspect to constipate avoid drinking milk a bit in coffee or tea forgiven but not as normal food.see web for candida symptoms that will give you guidance when eating wrong food like itchy skin red rashes pimples cheesy smell bely button and behind ears constant flu ear infection tingles and twitching around eyes cramps join and muscle ache itchy nose and anus arythmia headache moody forgetfull craving for sweets and fungal matured cheeses i used to have pins and needles all over my body up to neck level no doctor could diagnose me that was 25 yers ago one doctor come to best solution telling me since i have described my symptoms so precisely i have learned by now how to live with it and list of symptoms goes on for ever like norway saga candida is boring word to many and most of people never heard of it regards dr fungus

What about Potatoes? I’ve just been diagnosed with many allergies and there isn’t much left for me to eat…

Reply

19 Allergy Guy March 16, 2012 at 18:06

Potatoes don’t contain yeast (unless they start going rotten, in which case you wouldn’t want to eat them anyhow). You should take the time to remove any bad spots from the surface.

They are almost 100% carbohydrate, so if you’re worried about yeast overgrowth/candida, they aren’t a great choice, but for avoiding sources of yeast, they are fine as far as I know.

hi MJ alergy is invention there is always something wrong with us but thats hard one to work out, as for potatoes they are on list of candidal food dont laugh sweet potato is not on candidal food list what you have to realise potato is also on list of night shade vegetables including capsicums chilli tomato eggplant pepino fruit tomatilo.my experience with potato i can tolerate it but not so much sweet potato not on candidal side just it is too sweet for me .i used to love chilli it took me few years to discover they will give me back pain and all the way down my legs sciatic pain and tingling in my feet and pain as well.it puzzles me what they have to do with candida as i was eating green ones only anything red is at point of decay and it will ferment wont digest.but it gets more mysterious i will probably never work out this one until one night dreaming a male voice in english told me DONT EAT CHILLIS im not religious and english is not my first language.ihave listened to the voice stopped eating chilli all gone .i used to be in bed for weeks with crippling back pain and nutritionist tellig us how healthy they are.i must admit that i overload my mind with lots of unsolved questions during day probably at night my brain spits the answers while i sleep.night shade vegetables are known to cause arthritic pain and muscle ache eggs will do same and letuce which is plastic like for letuce i know why because of its plastic like structure it does not break down when in intestines it blocks microscopic willies which are responsible for nutrient apsorbtion and conversion into glucose there for body gets deprived of nutrients which manifest its self in arthritic pain like even bone ache like somebody is poking nails in your bones same also experienced with prolonged diarhoea.i hope you may get my drift everything have a cause or reason and thats where allergy fits in nicely because cademics like to have a quiet night of good sleep they not like me working around the clock trying to solve medical problems and doing all that for free and for well been of humanity.MJ spread the word and regards from dr fungus

I want to learn more of the bio-chemical content of vegetable derivatives and supplements containing yeast. pls what type of yeast is used to improve human eye condition including the level of yeast that could be recommended for health living. Also how can the side effect of high yeast intake be detected before going for medical check up please.

23 mario March 27, 2012 at 04:35

HI UNOGU forget the yeast of any kind most eye conditions are in kidneys which are agravated by yeast infection or candida so is blood pressure when no medication works.yeast creates heat by fermentation burns oxygen kidneys are most delicate organs of human body with fine filters.yeast causes swelling and puffeness in every tissue in body gets swollen so kidney filters become narrowed rises blood pressure and does not filtrate properly.there you have it.but thats not all yeast affects liver brain nerves and uses whole body as compost bin to grow mushrooms and truffles what is known as cancer. as for sources of any vitamins i dont dispute it but it would be in my way of thinking like i do not dispute that organised crime is good source of money but try to take a loan from them and suffer the outcome, same apply with fungal derivatives of any vitamins or minerals.regards dr fungus

HI GRINNY you can eat anything you want if you are prepared to suffer in pain you did not mention any problem as for eggs they are concetrated food and could cause muscle pain in some people our body is not keen on concetrates as it creates it own when needed.white potatoes are on list of night shades another pain when you say chips you mean fabricated dry or fryed ones.dry fabricated do contain some inhibitors for oil not to go stale and then vegetable oils are linked to eyesight problem.frozen chips are questionable unless you make your own chips desire potatoes make good one you dont need to deep fry them waste of oil,cut them to desirable shapes and fry them in non stick dish with cover and minimum of good oil.if you have any issue with your health read all my comments as i have experienced it on my own body for nearly seven decades and feel free for more questions.regards dr fungus

So what are we supposed to eat, then? I understand fresh vegetables and fruits, but which ones? If I have a yeast and sinus infection, it seems that there aren’t many things that I can eat. I do not eat red meets, processed foods, wheat bread or pastry, do not drink anything but water and wine(occasionally), do not eat sweets. Give me some examples of food that i CAN eat, please. Thanks!

hi NINA if you read all my comments carefully then you will get idea about foods what to eat what not to eat and which foods not to eat together.by your description yes you do have candida, dont be scared of red meat or any meat in moderation ,even so called organic meat no hormones mean nothing.by law they have to give some form of antibiotic to farmed animals to control other diseases.by all means avoid farmed or imported fish fruits and vegetables, due to unknown or banned pesticides, and latest from usa iradiated food.if you grow your own all polution falls down on your garden and plants are absorbing it.only way is to leave planet earth.i eat every thing whats not fabricated to last like pickled dried smoked avoid brown rice its candidal, dont fall for garlic cure candida, garlic is a very potent neurotoxin it is poison.to get your candida under control first avoid everything what is no , on candidal list see web for more info, and symptoms of candida.then give 3 months of strict non candidal diet .once your candida is under control ,remember you cant cure it ,only control it for life with right diet.then you can try to introduce some fruits but only ones in season and not ripe, do not mix them and leave few hours before meal.i have already writen here how to eat fruits and which ones you can eat widh food.dont make mistake most do, as soon they feel better they go back on wrong food and then blame mario for it.make sure your water is fitered ,and dont drink sweet vines i have mentioned about vines which areas vines to avoid, due to yeast use to speed fermentation.garden wormwood kils fungus instantly but does not cure anything and it is toxic if abused ,does expell metal toxins from body.common symptom of candida is metalic taste in mouth white tongue cracked or hard skin heels powdery toes which is dry yeast. big toe nails brownish, and soles of the feet have hardened and yellowish skin like crust on matured parmesan cheese.there is hundreds of symptoms once you get them to know then you can regulate your diet.bake your own bread there is my recipe here on this forum, dont hesitate for more info, only too glad . for me to share my experience with even not candidal foods was crippling and painfull time just want to let people know who are on pain killers for life not knowing it is as simple as stop eating chillis in my case or all night shades veghetables. im not saying dont eat offending foods but so long you know price of it.regards dr fungus

Physicians and a nutritionist are constantly recommending some supplements. But many (perhaps most?) supplements are made via fermentation. Doesn’t this mean they contain yeast?

I just read that COQ10 is made from yeast. Is there a list of yeast-free supplements?

Hi! I think have pinpointed a yeast allergy as I have had dizziness of and on my whole life, and was ok for a while until I started taking brewers yeast which has made me super dizzy and nauseous! I’m wondering about dairy for people with yeast allergies, I want to try and eliminate yeast for a while but there seems to be a lot of contradiction regarding dairy… Some say it’s ok some say to avoid it completely? Why should I do? Are some forms of raw dairy ok? I’m also wondering about peanuts, some sites say not to eat peanuts or pistachios? But these foods don’t contain yeast do they? How would they affect a yeast allergy?
Thanks so much for your help!!!

I agree with you, there is a lot of contorversy. Until I find a really reliable source, not just another website with an opinion, I can’t really give you a definitive answer.

I would suggest this: cut out everything suspicious or suspected for now. See how you feel. Once you are reliably better, try some of the low-risk foods that you think are yeast-free and see how you feel.

Do be aware that effects may be addative, in other words you may be ok with a food which has low levels of yeast, but not if you have three or four such foods in a day.
