Toronto South Indian Restaurant: Rashnaa

by Allergy Guy

South Indian food is a good choice for a gluten free diet, but the Rashnaa is not a good choice for either quality food or gluten free.

While those with a gluten allergy or celiac disease can eat here, it does not have the unfettered range of choices that a genuine South Indian restaurant should have.Based on good reviews, I drove clear across to the other side of Toronto for this restaurant, and was very disappointed.

Missing from the start was the subtle but distinct smell of the spices used to make great Indian food.

The dosa is done completely wrong, and is poisonous if you have celiac disease or a gluten allergy. They add wheat flour to their dosa.  This is a travesty and totally unnecessary.  It is not the traditional way to make dosa.  Any South Indian restaurant that adds wheat to their dosa gets a failing grade on this website.

The food we did order was not that great.  I don’t actually remember what I ordered, but it doesn’t matter.  It was not bad but neither was it good.  It was just disappointing.

If you are on a gluten free diet, you can eat here but I don’t recommend it.  And you must be very careful what you order.

Rashnaa is located at 307 Wellesley St. East, Toronto, Ontario, M4X 1H2
