Food Alternatives

by Allergy Guy

When you have to eliminate allergenic foods from your diet, what do you eat instead? This is no easy matter, especially when you have a long list of items to eliminate!
The goal of this section is to provide alternative food suggestions. Yes, you will have to get used to trying different types of food. This is a good thing though! As challenging as it might be at first, you won’t starve. Every part of the world has a different set of staple foods, so there is a lot to draw from. You will probably also begin to realize that there are many foods you already know about that you can eat.
For now, this category is divided up in to sections by food allergy.

There are many factors involved in what ever mechanism caused you to develop allergies in the first place. These include:

  • Leaky gut syndrome
  • A poor diet
  • Cross-reactions from other allergens
  • Over-exposure to a substance or food
  • Excessive alcohol
  • Overly clean environments during childhood
  • Being fed formula rather than breast milk as a baby

It is possible to control your exposure to many of these factors. If you are a parent, you can greatly influence the health of your child by the environment and how you it.

For example, the best way to elevate a poor diet is to eat well. This is guaranteed to make you feel better, even if you do not have allergies.

The first thing to do is eliminate all traces of the offending food from your diet. In the short term, this will make you feel better. In the long term, it May allow your body to “forget” about the allergy.

IGg cells are often responsible for delayed reaction allergies – where symptoms do not appear for hours or days. New IGg cells do not learn what to react to from old IGg cells, unless you are exposed to the allergen.

IGg cells are considered to have a half-life of about six weeks. As time passes, fewer and fewer of the old IGg cells that react to a particular food will be active in your body.

When all of the old IGg cells are gone (after about six months), the new ones should not react to the previously allergenic food. It is theoretically safe to eat the food again.

Note that this only applies to delayed-reaction allergies. This is not known to work for allergies where you get an immediate reaction to the food.

Also note that this does not always work. I have left some of my less serious allergies behind, but my wheat allergy continues to plague me.

The only way to find out if it works is to try it. You may want to eliminate the food for a year to be absolutely certain you have given this method the best chance of success.

Allergy Causes

by Allergy Guy

Why do people develop allergies in the first place?
There is not yet a definite, universal answer, but there is a lot of correlation between certain factors and developing allergies. Knowing these factors can help you to avoid developing more allergies (or developing allergies in the first place), and can help you to reverse some allergies.

Many people suffer from air-borne allergies. Some of these sufferers’ know what is making them sick, especially if for seasonal allergies to pollen. Others may not be aware that excessive levels of dust or mould are making them ill, or simply reducing their well-being. This becomes normal and many people may not notice that they could be better, until they experience a truly clean environment.

Your first clue that air quality might be an issue, is that if you you are outside, especially outside and out of the city, you feel better than when you are inside.

This does not necessarily indicate allergies; the fact is that poor air quality can reduce anyone’s well-being.

This site will start to talk about air quality and air-borne allergies in the near future.

Mean while, visit the Air Quality section of this website to locate products you can use to reduce air-borne allergens in your home or office.

Culinary life can be pretty dull on a restricted diet. Even if you do have allergies, you can still eat well. As long as you have access to the wide array of food ingredients available in the world, you will hardly feel the restrictions, really you won’t!

For those who live in a big city, chances are you can find most or all of what you want.

If you live in an area with limited food shopping possibilities, or simply don’t have the time to cross town for speciality food items, consider buying what you need on-line.

On line shopping gives you access to a wide range of products that you might not otherwise find. On line shopping for allergy food ingredients also provides a viable business model to stores that may not otherwise have enough clientèle geographically close enough to support them. This is where on line shopping really proves it’s worth!

This section provides access to other businesses. Allergy Details does no direct sales at this time.

Browse around this section and see what you can find! We will add more businesses as we find them, so come back every so often and find out what is new.

If you are aware of an on line store that you think should be included in this section, send us a message using the contact form.

Pollen-Electron-Microscope-Allergy-Causing

I don’t have seasonal allergies, but I feel for people who do. It can’t be fun feeling for months on end each and every year! Still, you might enjoy this scanning electron micrograph of pollens.

Pollen Indian mallowPosting the photo above was inspired by discovering this Colourised scanning electron micrograph of pollens (on the National Geographic website). Some of the pollen grains look rather benign, others, well, I can see why they make you sneeze.

You can see an example of the pollen from an indian mallow plan to the left.  See this image and others at much higher resolution using the link above.
