Allergy Awareness in Restaurants

By Karen Blue

I have long been impressed with the allergy guide at Swiss Chalet so I decided to find out how other restaurants owned by the same company compared. Swiss Chalet is owned by Cara Operations Limited, a Canadian company also owns Restaurant chains Harvey's, Kelsey's Milestones and Montana's Cookhouse. Cara decided to discontinue using peanut free ice creams, and have gained mixed reviews from people with allergies.

Wheat-Free in Restaurants

Wheat-free eating in restaurants can be a trail, or it can be very easy. It depends on the restaurant, the menu, and how well trained the staff is.

If you have a wheat allergy, a gluten allergy, or are celiac, your health and well-being depends on making sure that the restaurant food you eat is completely wheat-free (or gluten-free if you are celiac/gluten allergy).

If you are on a gluten-free diet, then avoiding wheat is only part of the story.
