Gluten free diet benefits are huge for those with celiac disease or a gluten allergy.\u00a0 But feedback is not immediate.\u00a0 How to stop eating gluten?<\/p>\n

Avoiding gluten is a real struggle: we are used to eating wheat-based foods \u2013 it seems like almost everything is either made of wheat, or has wheat in it.\u00a0 This isn\u2019t really true of course, but when you are trying to avoid gluten, that\u2019s all you see everywhere: wheat, barley, oats and rye as far as the eye can see!<\/p>\n

I\u2019ll tell you about a method I have used to avoid gluten and stay on a gluten-free diet.<\/p>\n

The first thing to understand when avoiding a food is that you can\u2019t not eat wheat!\u00a0 How do you not do something?\u00a0 By asking yourself that question, you are already at a disadvantage.<\/p>\n

Instead, you need to do a food substitution in your head.<\/p>\n

Every time you think \u201cwheat\u201d, or \u201cbread\u201d, or \u201ccookie\u201d or whatever, you need to replace that thought with a gluten-free alternative.<\/p>\n

This is easier than it has ever been.\u00a0 Now you can think \u201cgluten-free bread\u201d instead of bread or \u201cgluten-fee cookies\u201d instead of \u201ccookies\u201d \u2013 and go out and buy them in the store.<\/p>\n

The real secret to success is to have gluten free foods on hand.\u00a0 Think about what you can eat, and have a good store of raw ingredients to make your own gluten free food, and some prepared gluten free snacks for those times when you are too hungry to think.<\/p>\n

You will have better luck if you can eliminate all gluten-containing foods from your house and replace all of it with food you can eat.\u00a0 If this is not possible because of who you share your house with, then at least have\u00a0 gluten-free cupboard just for you, that you can open and be inspired by.<\/p>\n

The key to starting a gluten free diet it to replace the thought \u201cno gluten\u201d with thoughts about specific gluten-free foods you can eat.\u00a0 You will find many ideas on this and other gluten-free websites on the internet.<\/p>\n
