Gluten Free Fortified Fruit Shake for Breakfast

by Allergy Guy

A healthy, gluten-free breakfast can be a challenge. A fortified  fruit shake is healthy, gluten-free and can be milk free.  Fast and easy to make!

Actually, most people who eat wheat have rather unhealthy breakfasts, filled with processed foods and loaded with sugar.  So having a fruit shake for breakfast is a perfect healthy alternative, whether you have a gluten allergy, celiac disease or prefer to eat gluten free for any other reason.

The fortified part elevates this shake above mere mushed up fruit, providing fibre and greater sustenance to get you through the morning.

Gluten Free Fruit Shake Recipe

What you’ll need:

  • A blender, preferably a Vitamix
  • Fruit
  • Flax seeds and/or chia seeds
  • Protein powder, optionally plant-based such as rice protein

Method:

Place the seeds in the blender.  This must be done first.  Turn the blender on high speed.  Do not turn it off until seeds have been reduced to a fine powder.  If you turn the blender off, the partially milled seeds will fall below the blades and stay there, even when you turn the blender back on.

Cut up the fruit into large chunks and place into blender.

Add add additional ingredients such as protein p0wder.

Turn on blender and increase rate to mid to high speed.  After 10 to 20 seconds, a uniformly smooth smoothy will be ready to eat.

Here is a list of specific smoothy recipes which I have tried:
