You are lucky! Some people do not react to poison ivy. Some can walk through it but not rip it up and get mashed plant all over them.

What is the best treatment? How long will it last?
I bought a bunch of other mangos, and will try the soap and water and 2 knife approach. How soon should I begin to eat them again.

I have EXTREME sensitivity to poison ivy and mango juice (who would have guessed it was the same allergy!); I have contacted poison ivy on my face via the wind blowing it onto my skin, and my hives in reaction to mangos not only affects my mouth! It actually will go quite literally wherever the juice touches, should it not be washed off IMMEDIATELY (even then the corners of my mouth get hives). I’ve also noticed that when handling mango scented toiletries and perfumes, my skin will feel oddly tingly and burn.
Because of this I’ve always been super scared of what could be causing it, and don’t know what it is I should look out for on shampoos to ensure nothing has been snuck in. Is there some way to check or ANOTHER related allergy I could have to these two that I should avoid?

I am one of the lucky ones. I do not get poison ivy. I can walk right throughout it.

What a mistake! My lips and tongue are blistered. I am allergic to many meds, but this is the first food I ever had a reaction like this from. Thank you for helping me identify the source of my problem.
I am going to start taking Benadryl right now. Hope it helps. And, yes, that was my first and LAST mango!

Don’t ever, ever, ever, burn poison ivy. You will get it in your lungs and it can kill you. Don’t take my word for it. Research the topic.

Now, I have poison ivy all over. I thought that stuff was only a problem in the growing season. Guess not.

I wish that was true, but it is not the skins of mangos or other fruits, it’s the entire thing because of some type of enzyme in it when the fruit is in its raw state. Only cooking it will make it edible w/o reaction.

Yes, Michael, sorry to hear about that, but I can relate… my doctor told me years ago that mangos and poison ivy have an identical enzyme and some people have a poison ivy type reaction to mangos, like me. It requires prednisone to stop the reaction. I learned I have Oral Allergy Syndrome… many fresh tree fruits give me this reaction now. PS – I REALLY miss mangos too! (but it’s not worth the tortured reaction).
