Tired After Drinking Beer or Wine

by Allergy Guy

beer can make you tired

Do you get quite tired after having just one beer or glass of wine? Have you also noticed that you don’t get tired after spirits such as vodka or gin?

This could indicate a yeast allergy.

If the problem is only after drinking some types of beer, consider a wheat allergy as some types of beer are made with wheat.

I can usually drink beer with no problems but once in a while my heart starts to beat faster then normal and I get these big red spots all over my face, chest and different parts of my body and I feel tired. Normally when I eat with it.

Happened to me AGAIN! Had ONE St. Arnold Summer Pilsner last week at 5pm on a Sunday. Feeling great while eating dinner and drinking my beer. Right after felt an extreme tiredness sweep over me. I’m talking can’t keep my eyes open and stumbling around. Not drunk, just super, super tired. Then today I had another one from the same 6 pack with dinner. Same freakin’ thing, intense tiredness consumed me. Didn’t feel right or normal at all. Couldn’t shake it. Went to bed at 6pm and felt better after a few hours. Very strange experience.

I’d like to share about the tests that have helped me. I have had stomach and bowel issues for many years. Three years ago I had an endoscopy and the biopsy showed Celiac Disease, I’ve been gluten free ever since and it’s healed my small intestine. I had a deficiency bloodwork ( a must if you have Celiac) that showed many deficiencies – all the B’s, D3, and more along with some minerals. I am now receiving those through an IV and shots. Recently I had a food intolerance test, it shows I’m intolerant to all dairy, eggs, and all yeast- the yeast counts showed Candida. I had a breathe test for small bowel intestinal bacteria overgrowth (positive, also called SIBO). Although my food options are very limited now and I feel I’m in shock over the results at least I know what I need to do to be healthy again. I am seeking advise on a good nutritionist and candida Dr. in the Chattanooga, Tn to help me plan my meals. When our bodies are struggling to get nutrients and digest properly it can cause many health problems including with cancer. I hope this helps someone!

I don’t drink beer but used to drink Pear Cider or Blackfruits Cider by Strongbow. 2 cans later I was asleep for an hour or 2. I stopped drinking 2 years ago as since then I have been diagnosed with annoying IBS. I believe after reading this post and my food allergies is probably is wheat. Hard to say but be nice to find out why cider makes me fall asleep or am I just a cheap date? Lol

Hey Toby, as far as I know there isn’t wheat in cider, at least not in the ingredients that I have read. Do you have any information that says otherwise?

Hi. AG. Sorry for veey late reply I completely forgot to check this status. It has been recently found I am anemic due to the IBS. So it could be a related issue to the alcohol.

Why does drinking beer from a bottle make me tired after only 2 beers, I normally drink from cans with a straw? and I can drink plenty.

I can drink a whole bottle of any wine and feel fine accept for Pinot Grigio. 1 glass of Pinot Grigio puts me out like a baby. Never figured out why. Any thoughts?

I get very sick everytime I drink wine coolers, malt beverages, and beer. I get sick to my stomach(nauseos), dizzy, very tired, headache. and one time I fainted and stopped breathing after drinking a few too many wine coolers. also a lot of baked goods make me sick as well. I wonder what I’m actually allergic to?

It could be yeast. It could also be wheat or gluten.

I’m 23 and I rarely drink, but it seems like everything I drink beer, I feel extremely tired. I usually have no more than 2- 3 beers before falling asleep. I can eat pasta or anything else with wheat or yeast and feel fine afterwards.

I was a 6-8 beer a day drinker for almost 10 years. I decided to quit cold turkey almost a month ago.I also had very very bad scaling build up and extreamly itchy head every day of my life reguadless what shampoo I used. About 4-5 days after I quit drinking beer I noticed my issue with my head was compleatly gone! I did some other reaserch along with this web site about yeast and dandruff. I found out there is a relationship between yeast and scalp build up. So decided I have a beer yeast allergy that caused my embarissing problem with my dandruff. There is no where on line that directly relates beer consumption to scalp problems. Maybe my experience will help some one that has a problem.

Hello, I have suffered with my stomach and bowel movements for about six years. I thought for a long time I had problems with wheat produce but recently I can’t eat nuts, seeds, soft drinks, wine and beer. I am taking probiotic drink and tablets, kefir yogurt drink and plenty of water. Which has helped but it has eliminated my problem. I don’t know if I have IBS due to wheat or a yeast infection. I am out of the UK but when I return I will visit my doctor and a dietitian. Any advice would be appreciated.

I get hella tired just after one or two beers. I might be allergic to the shit or something but I think I’m going to stop drinking just because of this, I no longer wish to be the first person the pass out at the parties.

Me too

I think I am allergic to beer and wines. I can drink margaritas without issue but one beer or glass of wine makes me sleepy, tense, headache and feel like I have an allergy headache pressure. Nose even tingles, etc.

One issue with wine (and some beer) is the sulfites. I react strongly to sulfites by feeling very tired/fatigued and “not well.” I just found a wine at trader joes with no detectable sulfites. Is is called Well Red. I tried it and I didn’t react!
