Hi Janis,

In step 2, you melt the butter, but it hasn’t been added to anything yet.
In step 3, you add the dry ingredients.
In step 4 you mix, you don’t add any butter.

This crust does not work as a top crust, but you could try it as a crumble.

following the instructions:
1 melt butter
2 add dry ingredients
fine so far, then…..
3 add butter to dry mixture. thought i’d already added the butter.
4 press unmelted butter into dry mix in pie pan. thought the butter was all melted in step 1.
is there a recipe for a top crust as well?

Definitely add the apples uncooked! They will cook nicely in the oven. Other fillings can be cooked on the stove top if they are very watery. I add tapioca balls (small ones) to thicken fillings like preserved cherries which have a lot of juice in them. I’ve not make a fresh cherry pie (I can’t imagine removing all the stones) so I don’t know if they would work added raw to the pie crust.

I made the pie crust tonight, and it turned out great until I added the filling. That just turned it to mush. What filling did you use? I cooked up some apples that were a bit watery. Should I have added the apples uncooked?
