It could be the menthol cigarettes. Maybe you can get your roommate to smoke down-wind, or close the doors and windows etc. and see if that helps.

When he does my eyes get red and itchy. The other day they started to swell. Could his cigarettes be causing this? He smokes outside but it is still on his breath and the smoke can be smelled inside because it is so strong.
