Allergy Question

Epicor, Energy and Allergies

I've been taking EpiCor for the last six weeks, to see if it would help with my allergies.

What I've noticed is that I have more energy when I take EpiCore.

EpiCor is not an energy booster, so I've been wondering why this might be the case. Also, there is no research to support that it helps with food allergies at all.

What Epicor is good for is airborne allergies, such as dust, pollen, mold, pet dander etc.

Allergy or Anxiety?

Jackie asks:
I think I have an allergy to something I eat but I am not sure what? my Doctor said it is anxiety, but I know it is not. Some days I am o.k. but then my voice will go slightly hoarse and tremulous as though I am straining to talk. I have had my vocal cords checked and all is o.k., and was told it is probably an allergy. But finding out what it is, is the problem. Can you help'

Celiac Question and Gluten

The following question is about whether a specific symptom indicates celiac disease. Because the symptoms come and go under specific conditions, this question is very instructive.

Linda asks:

How soon is the onset of diarrhea if your allergic to gluten and eat it?? I have a daughter'n'law who thinks all of her children have the celiac disease. I'm not convinced. As when they spend the nite or days here and I give them gluten I don't see any diarrhea but when they go home the next day I get a call that one or all had diarrhea all nite. It happened again although this time I know I didn't feed them gluten Can you help me??
Thanks Linda

What's Wrong With My Body Allergy Question

Natacha asks:

Hi Doug,

For the last year I have been going back and forwards to my doctors regarding symptoms of constant sneezing, weight loss, no appetite and generally feeling down.

I was tested on two on occasions for celiac, an allergy to wheat which my nan also suffers from. The results both came back negative.

I have since realized I sneeze immediately after drinking beer which can go on for hours and causes me to feel as if I haven't slept in days, even though I get more than 6-7 hours. I then picked up that I was always sneezing after I drank beer and wine, when I drunk it. It was then I was told by a member of my family that it could possibly be the yeast and that is how I came across Yeast Allergy on the site, the problem is the allergy to yeast has bought up a link to again lactose intolerance, which I have explained I was tested for and nothing was found.

My point is I know there something is wrong and I was the one who requested a second test from my doctor as when I looked up lactose intolerance on the internet, most of the symptoms were just like the one's I have now.

I was also tested for iron and folic which were both negative.

I am at my wits end as it is ruining my life. It may sound extreme but at 23 years old I shouldn't be living like this.

I would be so appreciated for any advice that you can give me as I know there is something not right and am sick of being told to just cut out wheat and yeast but if nothing is found in 2 tests that have been for the same reason, then can I be blamed for fighting?

Any advice will be highly appreciated. Many Thanks. Natasha

Furniture with Mold Allergy Question

Corey asks:

Hi Doug,

I have to small couches and an armchair that may possibly have mould due to sitting in a basement for years. My sister and brother-in-law say they smell mould. My brother who knows his way around woodworking doesn't smell mould. I don't have a sensitive nose (damn - there goes a job as a sommelier) and can't smell anything myself. Is there a test one can do to confirm whether or not there is mould. If there's mould it would be in the upholstery as the wood seem perfectly fine.

Any thoughts you may have on the matter would be really appreciated.

Allergy Relief (skin symptoms) Question

Debra asks:

Hi Doug,

Why is it so difficult to find treatment info. on food/drinks that cause skin reactions? When I drink coffee, tea, or certain red wine my skin itches and gets bumpy. I look for relief and all of the overcounter meds. say Itchy eyes, runny nose, etc. nothing refers to "itchy skin". What helps for it?

Allergy Question: Will a High-Sensitivity Allergy Turn Into a Highly Reactive Allergy?

Sophie asks:

Hi Doug,

My son was diagnosed with a tree nut allergy yesterday with high sensitivity to cashew. He had a 15 mm wheal which I understand is high. He was referred mainly because he has terrible pain in his mouth and ears when he ate these nuts which was only three times, however they were surprised at how mild his reaction was in comparison with the skin prick test.

The one question I couldn't get answered was if he has had such a mild reaction so far, will he always react like this or could he have an unexpected severe reaction given his level of sensitivity. We have been given an oral antihistamine to carry around and have been told to avoid giving him nuts altogether.
